I was born
in St. Louis and my passion for photography started when I received
my first camera at six years of age. When I was twelve, I borrowed
a 35 mm camera for my first photography class at Crossroads School,
and from that point on I was most often seen with a camera in hand.
Over the
years my skills and creative eye developed and sharpened. In college,
I spent more on film and processing than on tuition. I became proficient
in portraiture and studio lighting and offered my talents to others
for a nominal fee. My work in a camera store with a photo lab allowed
me to fine tune my knowledge of color and custom black and white printing.
Eight years
later, I was doing photography full time and set about the task of
finding a studio. I found the perfect spot and with two business partners
we purchased a commercial building from the city on the corner of
Russell Blvd. and Mississippi Ave. The extensive renovations we did
earned us a Landmark Award, and I had a wonderful studio in which
to expand by rapidly growing photography business. Scott Lokitz Photography
and Signature Arts opened for business in June, 1998.
My work
has been featured in Missouri Historical Society Exhibits, the book
St. Louis Pets Illustrated produced by The Humane Society
of Missouri, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Home Interiors,
the Vital Voice, as well as many other local publications and websites.
